Blanket Sleepers were invented by Whitley Denton,a textile worker, in central Michigan, during the 1860's,at the height of the American Civil War as a means for the parents of young children to keep their youngsters, who tend to be active in their sleep, warm when they kick their covers off during the night during the cold winter months, and though the design of the blanket sleeper has barely changed over the past 150 years, many of the features associated with blanket sleepers, from neck-to-ankle zippers,zipper-tabs, toecaps, and left-chest appliques have all come about in the 1950's, some of which still are seen on mass-produced blanket sleepers today,in the second decade of the 21st Century.
